Andy Hawkesford

Specialist in Surgical Dentistry


Andy Hawkesford is qualified in both medicine and dentistry and recognised by the General Dental Council as a specialist in Surgical Dentistry.

He is also very experienced in all aspects of Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry and has a special interest in sedation for

the nervous patient as well as being keen to promote the well recognised links between oral health and total body health.

He graduated in Dentistry at King's College, University of London and subsequently in Medicine at St. George's Hospital, University of London with a certificate of merit for surgery. He holds a Primary Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons, England and he has a Certificate in Clinical Implantology from the Eastman Dental Institute for Oral Health Care Sciences. Dr Hawkesford is a member of the British Dental Association, the Association of Dental Implantology, an associate member of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a member of the Eastman Academy.

As well as working for many years in both private and NHS general and specialist practice, he has held several hospital appointments in oral surgery, prosthetic and conservative dentistry and also in general surgery, ENT surgery, orthopaedic and trauma surgery, accident and emergency medicine, general medicine and care of the elderly.

He has undertaken postgraduate education in North America, Europe and the UK and regularly lectures to dentists and professionals complimentary to dentistry in the UK.

Outside his busy clinical schedule he occasionally finds time to see his young family, is a keen skier and accomplished pianist and oboist.

John Coventry

Specialist in periodontics.

John took his Masters qualification in periodontics in 1975. He has been involved in teaching postgraduate students at the Eastman Dental Institute since that time. He has lectured widely in Britain, Singapore and Germany. His publications have been about local application of antibacterial substances, regeneration of damaged tissues and tooth sensitivity.

John has run a specialist referral practice in Harcourt House

since 1980.

The full range of periodontal treatments, including regeneration and cosmetic procedures, is provided. He is regarded as a leading exponent of regeneration techniques.

Hygienist

Norma qualified as a dental hygienist from University College Hospital London in 1987. She is also recognised by the Canadian and American Dental Hygienist associations obtaining her professional qualifications from both of these governing bodies. She has extensive experience in private practice in England and North America, where she has worked for many years, and continues to provide specialist dental care to the highest clinical standards in periodontal scaling and preventive care for adults and children. Norma has recently gained a postgraduate qualification in local anaesthesia from the University of Wales College of Medicine.

 

Hygienist and Dental Therapist

Mel qualified in March 1999 with a diploma in dental hygiene and in July 1999 with a diploma in dental therapy from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of medicine and dentistry.

She has worked in mixed practice for a year before joining Holford and partners in May 2000. She covers many areas of patient treatment and care including specialist periodontal work, paediatric treatments and treatment of patients with special needs under sedation.

Since the introduction of extended duties for hygienists and therapists in July 2002, Mel has been busy attending the postgraduate training courses and has gained all of the new qualifications relevant to both dental hygiene and dental therapy.
